Who are the
Lions?
|
|
Lions Clubs are an international network of men and women
who work together to answer the needs that challenge communities
across the world.
What do we do?
We serve our community by arranging and taking part in
events that provide funds or resources for good causes or
individuals, especially those in and around Bridport.
Lions have been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize.
Our
members also give their time to helping others, while enjoying
the fellowship of others.
Bridport Lions donated over £9000 to local causes last year.
We cover all costs from our own administration fund, ensuring
that all public donated monies go to LIONS chosen causes.
The Financial Times has
ranked Lions Clubs International Foundation the “best among
non-government organizations worldwide with which to work”.
We are proud that our organization is close to a century old,
and that it has a distinguished history of doing good works for
the world. Local communities respect and trust their clubs, both
because those clubs are made up of neighbours and friends who
have a long record of support, and because of the Lions Clubs
International name and legacy.
Lions are the only voluntary organization accredited to the
United Nations
We have fun in our clubs. And when we meet fellow Lions for the
first time, we treat them like old friends.
Lions arranged and paid for 20,000 cornea transplants around the
world last year
When you join Lions, you join a global service network. So at
the same time you’re helping your own community locally, you can
also contribute to Lions community efforts in other countries.
Lions introduced the use of white sticks for the blind through a
member, Helen Keller.
